I’m Rich — a professional engineer, lifelong mountain biker, and founder of Alpine Bike Consulting.

Over the years, I’ve ridden and owned a wide range of mountain bikes, from traditional trail and enduro bikes to the latest generation of eMTBs. Like many riders, I became fascinated not just with riding itself, but with how bike geometry, suspension design, motor systems, setup, and terrain all influence the riding experience.

Professionally, I work as a structural engineer leading complex alpine and backcountry infrastructure projects in the Canadian Rockies. My engineering background shaped the way I approach mountain bikes: analytically, practically, and without hype. I enjoy simplifying complicated decisions and helping people understand what actually matters for their riding style, terrain, goals, and budget.

Alpine Bike Consulting was created to offer riders something increasingly rare in the bike industry: independent advice. I provide this independent MTB buying advice based on rider fit, terrain, goals, and budget. I’m also connected with local industry partners, and in some cases clients may receive discounts on recommended bikes or gear, but only if this aligns with their choices. In no way does this influence my recommendations.

Modern mountain bikes — especially eMTBs — are incredibly capable, but choosing the right bike has become more complicated than ever. Between evolving geometry, motor systems, battery sizes, wheel sizes, suspension categories, and endless online opinions, it’s easy to feel overwhelmed or make an expensive mistake.
